Special Education Endorsement Programs
Walden University's College of Education offers state-approved† Special Education Endorsement Programs with an optional M.S. in Education with a specialization in Special Education. For licensed teachers who want to transition into a special education classroom or bring these skills to their current teaching area, our practical, accelerated programs combine the flexibility of online learning with hands-on field experiences. In 9 to 17 months (depending on program choice and individual progress), you can enhance your skills and increase your professional opportunities by fulfilling the requirements needed to teach K–12 students with special needs.

†Walden University’s endorsement programs are approved by the Minnesota Board of Teaching for endorsement or add-on licensure in Minnesota. Candidates for this program must already hold a valid elementary or secondary teaching license. Walden’s enrollment advisors can provide individuals with guidelines and other information about endorsements. It remains the individual’s responsibility to understand and comply with the out-of-state endorsement requirements for the state in which he or she seeks to be endorsed.


Teacher Preparation Programs for First-Time Teachers
Do you know someone interested in changing careers to become a teacher? Ask us about Walden University's new state-approved teacher preparation programs for first-time teachers! We offer accelerated state-approved* teacher preparation programs with an optional Master of Arts in Teaching (M.A.T.) degree. Because the programs are offered online, they allow participants to work full-time while they study. With a focus on early childhood education or special education, our teacher preparation programs meet the educational requirements needed to teach in P–12 classrooms or other educational settings. These programs are designed for those with a bachelor's degree who aspire to teach.

Prospective Washington state students are advised to contact the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction at 360-725-6320 or prof.educ@k12.wa.us to determine whether this education program is approved for teacher certification or endorsements in Washington state. Additionally, teachers are advised to contact their individual school district as to whether this program may qualify for salary advancement.
